Mom tries to pray her energy bills away

Sometimes I really wish that my family would move.

I know that they are settled in the area where they reside but I feel like they have a lot of negative influences all around them. For instance, my mom is a bit too active in her local church group. Don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing wrong with having your own religious beliefs or internal faith systems. The problem is when your faith system starts to override your reasonable thinking. Recently, it’s become clear that my mom has crossed the line into unreasonable living standards. The last time I visited her she had absolutely no indoor air temperature control to keep her house comfortable in this horrific heat. Of course, I wanted to help her with her central heating and cooling problems. I asked over and over again if it was her air conditioning unit or thermostat that needed to be repaired. She told me, simply, that she didn’t know what was wrong with the HVAC system but she was sure that it would work itself out. Apparently she had very high energy bills for the past several years and never mentioned that her HVAC equipment wasn’t working so well. She never bothered to call a professional heating and cooling technician that entire time. When I asked about her reluctance to utilize a certified heating, cooling, and air quality control specialist she simply shrugged her shoulders. She told me that there’s no need to arrange for a professional HVAC inspection to repair the high energy bills or broken air conditioner because she’s been praying about it.
