I’m not sure if you’ve ever lived in a formidable climate like I have, but let me tell you how difficult it can make life.
Every season feels like a personal attack on your well-being, and there’s nothing you can do except to strap in and take on the new challenges head on while waiting for the relief of the next season.
There’s rarely a day that feels comfortable or care-free, and you’re always having to think ahead to the next looming disaster which will be brought in by the changing winds. For instance, the year starts with a brutal winter chill and piles of snow. It’s bitterly cold outside, and the only relief available is to keep your furnace running hot and heavy all season. It gets expensive to power a heater this much, but the alternative options are including a fireplace or space heaters in your heating repertoire, if you are so lucky as to own these heating supplements. It’s impossible to enjoy anything outside, and every second spent outdoors you are counting down to the time when you can re-enter the comfort of your heated house again. The outdoor air is so frigid that it’s difficult to breath and your fingers go numb within moments; standing in front of an air vent and trying to thaw them out is a long and painful process that you can look forward to indoors. It’s a miserable and trying time of year, and it’s insanely expensive to simply keep your house at a livable temperature for 6 months on end.
